How to compare programs
Start with two or three occupations you could imagine doing, then read their BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook profiles for tasks, typical entry education, pay distributions, and projected openings. A fast percentage growth rate can apply to a small occupation; look at both growth rate and number of openings.
For each college, compare net price after grants, completion outcomes, typical debt, and program-level earnings where available. The US Department of Education's College Scorecard helps with these comparisons. Verify the actual aid offer and total cost for your situation; a national average is not your bill.
Build flexibility without chasing every trend
Critical thinking, clear writing, quantitative reasoning, collaboration, and the ability to learn new tools serve many fields. Try an introductory class, talk to working professionals, and seek an internship, lab, clinic, or community project before committing to a specialized track.
A strong fit might also be a community-college program, apprenticeship, certificate, or later graduate degree. Do not borrow heavily solely because a major appears on a popular list. Recheck labor-market data and school outcomes before enrollment, because both costs and demand can change.
