Canadian startup funding figures are easy to misread when a list mixes Canadian and US dollars or combines seed, Series A, and national market totals. This selected list uses company and investor announcements from 2024. Each figure refers to a particular company round, not all funding received by the business or the Canadian market as a whole.

Three company announcements

Tracktile — C$575,000 pre-seed

The Prince Edward Island manufacturing-software company announced its round in July 2024. It later reported a separate seed round in 2025, which is not included in this figure.

YouSet — C$3.5 million seed

The Montréal insurance-shopping startup announced an oversubscribed seed-stage round on August 20, 2024. The company's source identifies earlier pre-seed funding as a different transaction.

Gaiia — US$13.2 million Series A

Inovia said in June 2024 that it had led the Canadian-founded internet-service-provider software company's Series A. The investor quoted the amount in US dollars, not Canadian dollars.

Why dates and currencies matter

A fundraising announcement may precede or follow the transaction's legal closing. Amounts can also be reported in different currencies by issuers and databases. Rather than convert a historical amount using today's exchange rate, retain its original currency and state the date. Do not treat a loan facility, grant, or investor commitment as equivalent to a completed priced equity round without checking the source.

The original issuer statements describe intended use of proceeds and growth plans. Those plans are not results. Gaiia's announcement concerns a Series A, while YouSet and Tracktile describe seed and pre-seed rounds. Comparing them as if they represent a single funding stage would be misleading.

Place a shortlist in market context

BDC's later review of the 2024 Canadian venture-capital market reported about C$7.9 billion invested and a rise in overall activity. That is a national measure from a separate data set, not the sum of the three companies above. It should not be used to estimate an average from this handpicked sample.

Use this page to identify dated announcements and follow the source links for details. A fuller market study should define which companies, financing instruments, regions, currencies, and disclosure thresholds it includes. Current company and regulatory records are necessary when a decision depends on a firm's present status.
