The Colorado founder announced a $1,000 award for a college-bound student-athlete.

Fruita, Colorado

Announcement

Colorado native and former student-athlete Cory Thompson announced a $1,000 scholarship fund in August 2025. The award was intended for a graduating high-school senior with experience in organized sports and plans to attend a U.S. college or university. Thompson connected the fund to his own experience in Fruita and Grand Junction and to the educational and leadership skills students can develop through athletics.

The original 2025-26 application called for a minimum 3.0 grade-point average, recommendations, and an essay about the applicant's student-athlete experience. It gave a June 1, 2026 deadline and a June 15 selection date. Those dates have passed. The fund's application page still displays historical details, but neither that page nor the launch announcement establishes whether a recipient was selected or whether a new round is open.

Students interested in future support should confirm current eligibility, deadlines, award administration, and the legitimacy of any application form directly with the scholarship organizer or their school counselor. No application fee or request for sensitive financial credentials should be inferred from this release. This page preserves the launch announcement rather than advertising the expired 2026 round.
