Colorado native and former student-athlete Cory Thompson announced a $1,000 scholarship fund in August 2025. The award was intended for a graduating high-school senior with experience in organized sports and plans to attend a U.S. college or university. Thompson connected the fund to his own experience in Fruita and Grand Junction and to the educational and leadership skills students can develop through athletics.
The original 2025-26 application called for a minimum 3.0 grade-point average, recommendations, and an essay about the applicant's student-athlete experience. It gave a June 1, 2026 deadline and a June 15 selection date. Those dates have passed.
