Businessman Daban Ahmed of Erbil was named in a February 2025 announcement about a planned fifth-generation mobile venture in Iraq. The release promoted a future telecom company and the wider possibilities of faster connectivity for businesses and consumers. It did not name a licensed operator, publish a regulator's authorization, document spectrum rights, or show that a commercial network had begun serving customers. Ahmed's business group has a public presence, but that does not prove the specific 5G milestone claimed in the original headline.
Iraq's National Development Plan for 2024–2028 separately describes an objective to select an operator for a fourth national mobile-phone license using fifth-generation technology. A policy goal is not itself a license or a network launch. Likewise, the technical potential of 5G depends on spectrum, coverage, devices, backhaul, and investment; a generic speed comparison cannot predict what any Iraqi subscriber would experience.
This historical page records the proposed venture without describing it as Iraq's first operating 5G company. To confirm a launch, readers would need a named operator, current authorization from the relevant regulator, coverage information, and independently observable service.
